What is Twitter?

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, short posts or "tweets". It started out with simply answering the question "What are you doing?"

How does SonicTwitter use the Twitter service?

SonicTwitter has changed the question from "What are you doing?" to "What events or news will help fellow business owners grow and improve their business?" In order for everyone to participate, we have provided an anomoymous Twitter feed for you to post your business events and news. Then you can use your phone, browser, RSS viewer or email reader to keep in touch with this ongoing "feed" of news and events. If you encounter an event or important news item you want to share, come back to the home page of SonicTwitter and post it!

How long is a post?

A Twitter post must be under 140 characters long. Therefore keep your event or news item concise and short. A good format would be:

Event Name, Day Month Time, Organization or Business, Link URL;

An example of what a 140 character post might look like is:

5 Minute Networking Wed., July 30, 2008 7:30 - 9:30 am El Camino Country Club 3202 Vista Way, Oceanside. Link: http://tinyurl.com/64xocm

Links will generally put you over the 140 characters, don't worry too much about this because we will use "TinyURL" to shorten your link to about 25 characters for you. Your message before the link should be under 115 characters. If your post is still too long try abbreviations and removing some punctuation.

My post is still too long, what do I do?

First try and post your message and the SonicTwitter service will shorten any URLs and remove some punctuation for you. If that fails to shorten it enough, SonicTwitter will return the shortened post for you to review and work on further.

Next try abbreviations wherever possible. Shorten the day or the time, remove periods in "a.m." or "p.m." We have found that with these suggestions you should be able to get it under the 140 characters.

Utilize links to outside web resources for additonal information. Bottom line you won't be able to fit everything in 140 characters.

How do I follow SonicTwitter?

There are quite a number of ways to follow SonicTwitter. The simplest is to load the RSS feed into your email client or browser and then bookmark (or Favorites) . You can follow on your phone as well. Go to this page How to Follow for details and links with instructions.

I see SonicTweet, but who are these other posters?

They are volunteer SonicTwitter reporters. Anyone can become a SonicTwitter reporter but there is one major condition: Your posts must be about business news and events.

Can the SonicTwitter feed be customized?

Yes, but there is a small service fee required.
